Solutions for FTTx

The demand for more content, greater speed and new communication protocols is exploding across many global markets. Services such as High Speed Internet Access , Voice over Internet, Video-on-Demand, and High Resolution TV Broadcasting represent substantial new revenue opportunities for Telecommunications Operators and Network suppliers. More and more service providers are finding that Fibre to the Home (FTTH) or Fibre to the Kerb (FTTK) offer the ideal solution to the challenges of delivering high bandwidth to subscribers, economically and dependably.

3M Telecommunications supports FTTH and FTTK implementation with an unmatched history of innovation in fibre interconnect and management technology, either to leverage existing infrastructure or to install a completely new network. 3M Telecommunications has decades of experience in the telecommunications access network, a full and growing product portfolio and industry leading research and development resources. 3M Telecommunications provides a full range of physical media layer capabilities for FTTH implementation in the central office, across outside plant and at customer premises.

FTTx Applications

Solutions for Central Office
3M Telecommunications offers a wide range of fibre optic distribution frames for both horizontal and vertical applications. All of these products are approved by the major European Telecommunications Companies and already implemented in their networks. The modularity of these products allows installation within cross connect cabinets, kerbside cabinets or in large multi-dwelling units (MDUs).

Solutions for Outside Plant
3M Telecommunications offers a wide range of protection products, cable cleaning and visual network marking products suitable for use in FTTx networks. With 3M Telecommunications’s proven mechanical sealing technology, all 3M Telecommunications fibre optic closures are suitable for applications within FTTx networks such as track (backbone), spur (branch) or distribution points. Outdoor fibre optic distribution boxes are also available for the "last mile" applications.

Solutions for Customer Premise
For residential cabling, MDUs and building entry points, 3M Telecommunications offers a portfolio that incorporates a passive fibre optic interconnect system based on international cabling standards: traditional interconnect products like FC, SC, ST and LC connectors; mechanical optical splices; wall mount indoor/outdoor distribution boxes for single dwellings or for multidwelling units.

Fibre Connection Solutions
3M Telecommunications offers a full range of fibre connection solutions in wide range of different connectivity styles for FTTH and FTTC and fibre in the premises. 3M Telecommunications' own process, the Volition VF-45 is based on an easy to terminate, full duplex small form factor connector similar to an RJ-45 copper connector. 3M Telecommunications also offers a full range of standard ferruled connectors such as the LC, SC, ST or FC. All are available in both singlemode and multimode format and in a number of easy to use assembly processes, Hot Melt, Crimplok or our No Polish Connector. These connectrors are complemented by a range of patchcords and pigtails in a variety of lengths. There is also an extensive range of mounting hardware & accessories including 19" patch panels, fanouts and distribution boxes. The Fibrlok mechanical splice, available in single, multifibre and angled versions for singlemode and multimode fibre is extensively used in some of the most advanced FTTH programmes.

Marking & Locating
In outside plant it is critical to know the exact location of all underground (subterranean) networks. This is especially true for fibre optic networks where there is no metallic element in the cable. Marking the network will save time and effort and costly mistakes on maintenance, re-entry and new installations. 3M Telecommunications offers an advanced technology product portfolio for electronically marking the underground network. With 3M EMS and Locators it is possible to map the FTTX network and trace it precisely.
